GEARFIELD, Solomon and Sarah Stimpson of Sudbury, int. May 20, 1769.
Several biographies of President James Garfield say Solomon "had married Sarah Stimpson in 1866" ("Life and Wok of James A. Garfield" by John Clark Ridpath), or "was married in 1766 to Sarah Stimpson, a widow" ("Life and Times of James Abram Garfield" by Arthur David Hosterman"), etc. The records suggest the date is wrong.
