1776 – brothers Isaac and John Finch living in the Wyoming Valley of PA Isaac killed in the battle of Wyoming Massacre 3 Jul 1778 – John Finch and all his family killed at the same time. Isaac and Amy Finch were the parents of: Isaac, Moses, John, Enos, Amy, Rebecca, Sarah, Elizabeth, Mary and Solomon. 15 Apr 1771 Moses Finch s/o Isaac and Amy Finch (brother to Solomon) was born in the Wyoming Valley, PA. He would marry Sarah Beanon in 1789 and they had: Isaac, Kinney, Charles, Beanon, Abraham Wheeler, James Beanon, Nathaniel, Walter and John. Another brother to Solomon was John (no birth date given) who had at least 3 sons – Jubal, John and Cyrus, then married again and had Sarah who m. Dr. Amos Palmer, Elizabeth who married a Davidson, Margaret who never married and Laura who married a man named Meak. He then married once more and had Hiram C., John, Fabious M., Rebecca who married James Holl, Angeline who married a Williams, Horatio who was a lawyer and moved to California. Some of this family stayed in Indiana and some came on to Clay Co. IL 1778 after the massacre the widow, Amy Finch, takes the children and goes to what would become Genesee County NY. While there she was joined by a son and daughter who had been living in Massachusetts. They built a house there and stayed “until the children were grown and married” Solomon Finch was only 5 months old having been born 31 Jan 1778. Ca 1797 Belinda Jones is born in Vermont (source: 1850 census) 1800 census of Windham Co. Vermont shows Eliakim Jones 1001-1011. Nearby is Anthony Jones 00101-02002 who might be a brother? If this is the right Eliakim he is probably the same seen on the IGI as marrying Elizabeth Chase ca 1795 in Halifax, Windham Co. VT – born abt. 1773/4 at Guilford, Windham County NY 1800 census of Ontario Co. NY – most of the Finches seem to be there (though I did not see Solomon) which should be where they were as Genesee Co. will cut from Ontario County in a few years. 1804 Solomon Finch returned to the Wyoming Valley and married Sarah Gardner 13 Mar 1804 bringing her back to Genesee County. The rest of Solomon’s siblings married in the Genesee Co. NY area. 5 Jan 1805 Rebecca Finch, d/o Solomon & Sarah, was born in the Wyoming Co. PA – she will grow up to marry George Shirts in Indiana and 2ndly Jay Ridgeway and die in 1873 24 Jan 1807 Mary Finch, d/o Solomon & Sarah, was born in Genesee County NY – she would grow up to marry Hiram Finch (her cousin, son of John Finch) 16 Oct 1809 James Gardner Finch, s/o Solomon & Sarah, was born in Rochester, NY he would marry Sarah Woodborn 28 Nov 1833 and later settle in Clay Co. IL. After Sarah’s death he married Mary Ann Purdom. 1810 census of Genesee Co. NY – Caledonia twp. Shows “Suly” Finch, Solomon Finch, Enos Finch, John Finch – all on the same page. Next to the household of John Finch is Eliacum Jones. Daniel Finch is found in Parma Twp. The only Babcocks in the county are Isaiah in Batvia Twp. And Newman Babcock in Murry twp. 1814 – in early Spring Amos, Parm, John, Moses and Solomon Finch together with families went in wagons from Genesee county NY to Olean Point NY, a point on the tributary of the Ohio River and flat boated down to the Ohio then to North Bend Ohio near present day Cincinnati. Solomon T. French served under Gen. William H. Harrison after the war was over and even worked for him. Enoch Finch went to Eastern OH and Moses and John went to Brooksville, IN later moving to Connorsville, Fayette Co. IN. Solomon would later follow them there. 1819 Solomon Finch and part of the family of John Finch moved from Connersville, Fayette County IN to Hamilton Co. IN and settled near present day Noblesville, IN – the rest of the family followed them the following September 12 May 1816 Emily Finch , d/o Solomon & Sarah, was born 1 Sep 1818 Augustus H. Finch , s/o Solomon & Sarah, was born and died 12 Nov 1820 1819 James W. Babcock is born to John Ira and Belinda (Jones) Babcock April 1819 Solomon Finch & family moved from Connorsville to Hamilton Co. IN 1820 census of Hamilton Co. Ohio, Whitewater Twp. shows John I. Babcock and Eliacom Jones side by side. The Finches have exited to Indiana so no sign of any of them. Around them are Thomas & Walter Kerr (often Karr), William Baldwin/Boldwin, Chester Granger, Joseph Harvey and James Ory. Solomon, Israel and John Finch are in Delaware Co. IN 21 Nov 1820 Solomon Tompkins Finch was born , s/o Solomon & Sarah, in Hamilton County IN – he moved with his parents to Clay Co. IL. He would marry Bethsheba Long 15 Apr 1831, 2nd dau. Of Rosamond and Hannah Stanford Long. 1840 Census Clay Co. IL shows John I. Babcock. Next door to him is James Finch. June 1847 Sarah (Gardner) Finch, wife of Solomon dies in Clay Co. IL 1850 Census Clay Co. IL – Clay & Richland Twp. HH 477 Solomon Finch age 72 b. PA Balinda Finch age 53 b. VT James W. Babcock age 31 b. OH Eiken J. Babcock age 25 b. OH Hannah M. Babcock age 12 b. OH Martha M. Babcock age 15 b. IN John R. Babcock age 13 b. IN Mary J. Babcock age 7 b. IL Wm. H. Babcock age 6 b. IL June 1851 Solomon Finch died on Elm Creek Farm, Clay Co. IL
