Saville and Susan spent their lives and raised their family in Leicester. Leicester is in the middle of England Northwest of London. Quorndon is a small village.

Saville was a patron of the book “The History and Antiquities of the County of Leicester”. His son Humphrey listed his occupation as “Gentleman” in one census. The Hyde family must have had some money. To a degree, "gentleman" signified a man with an income derived from property, a legacy or some other source, and was thus independently wealthy and did not need to work. The term was particularly used of those who could not claim nobility.

There is some question as to the proper list of the children of Saville Hyde and Susannah Butler. See the Talk Page for a discussion.
