  2. Secondary sources indicate there were twelve children in this family, but no birth records have been found. Source:Windham, Vermont, United States. Gazetteer and Business Directory of Windham County, Vt., 1724-1884, p. 210, "eleven children all of whom grew to maturity" (only 10 adult children found) Source:Rice, Gary H. From the Water's Edge, p. 53, the second daughter Sally was "youngest of twelve children". Assignment of children to this family has been somewhat aggressive based on name, age and location.
Source:George, Georgia Rosamond Anderson Cook. Melendy Family in America, 1701-1981, p. 141, shows 12 children, with two dying young. This source appears to give specific dates of birth. While there is no reason to doubt that this is based on some family records, and they seem feasible, the source of these dates is not specifically identified, nor do the births seem to have been recorded in Guilford, and some of the research on this family hasn't been entirely accurate (see comments on Polly's page), so it is not clear how much authority should be given to these birthdates.
