There is something unclear about Rolleiv's marriages. It is completely certain that he was married before 1595 and that he was "svoger" to the pastor Lauritz Matsøn in Sauherad. Bishop Jens Nilssøn mentions this twice in his visitation books for the years 1574 to 1597. ...
It can be shown that the bishop uses the term "svoger" several times in the books meaning son-in-law and not in the sense that we use the word [as brother-in-law].
The author goes on to explain why he believes that Rolleiv was the son-in-law of Lauritz Matsøn and not his brother-in-law.
