Mr and Mrs. Rodney Henderson Married 53 Years Ago Today

"Today is the fifty-third wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Rodney Henderson of High street dnd they will observe the event as they have every Christmas since 1855, by remaining quietly at home.

Mr. Henderson is the well-known janitor of the Sagadahoc county building and also court messenger, positions he has held since October 1880, and never but once during this long time has he missed but one session of court and that was on account of illness.

Mr. Henderson was born in Richmond and learned the ship building trade in this city [Bath], making a specialty of caulking. He also served in Co. A of the third Maine regiment and participated in 18 battles, including both battles of Bull Run.

It was on Christmas day 53 years ago that he married Martha J. Fletcher, daughter of the late Capt. Reuben Fletcher of Phippsburg and they have had four children of whom three are now living, Christopher and John Henderson of Boston and Mrs. Fred Johnson of this city."
