By 1861, Thomas Cooper, farmer, aged 22, had not yet married but was the head of house for four of his siblings. He was living with his brother John, laborer, and three sisters, as well as his cousin Eratus S. Howard, minister, in a log house on his farm in Percy, Northumberland. His mother Jennie and brother Eratus seem to have lived in this household as well, but both died in 1860. On the 1861 census, John was listed as 32 years old, Mary was 20, Catherine was 16, and Agnes, was 14. There is no evidence that 32-year-old John ever married and he moved to Hastings and became a merchant before dying in 1875. The family was living next to the Hiram Darling family. Catherine would marry John Darling in 1863, while Agnes married Solomon Darling. Mary stayed a spinster until she was 44, marrying James Ed Williams in 1885. References
