- Maria Hebbard's middle name "Elma" was determined from her son's, Melvin Arthur Bresee, application #1204 to the Sons of the Revolution dated 4 June 1923. The same middle name is used in Phineas Johnson Bresee's application #2250 to the Sons of the Revolution dated 10 Dec. 1928
1920 death details from the First Church of the Nazarene notice dated 21 March 1920 for Sunday Services: she died about 3:45 p.m. Saturday, March 13, 1920, with funeral service on Monday, March 15, 1920, and burried in Evergreen Cemetery next to Dr. P.F. Bresee, her husband, and his parents.
1910 census shows her age 73 (born 1837) and born in New York as were her parents. This does not match with her mother's place of birth. The family was living on Santee St., Los Angeles at the time.
1900 census shows her born 15 Nov. 1836, in New York, with her father born in New York and her mother born in Conn. The family was living on Main St., Los Angeles, CA. at the time.
1883 August 17th, the family left Council Bluffs, Iowa, by railroad box car for an eight day trip to Los Angeles, California.
1870 census for E. Des Moines, Polk Co., Iowa shows PF Bresee age 31 (born 1838) living with his wife Maria E. age 33, Ernest H. age 8, Phineas W. age 4 and Bertha. Her father-in-law, Phineas Philips Bresee is living near by.
1860 census show her as age 23 (born 1837) living with her parents in Davenport, NY and born in NY. 1860 marriage location is per Dr. Bangs' book "Phineas F. Bresee, his life in Methodism, the Holiness Movement, and The Church of the Nazarene" pages 38-40.
1850 census shows her as age 13 living with her parents in Davenport, NY.
