According to the 1940 Census, Patsy was a stone cutter, and arrived in the U.S. in 1900. The 1930 Census also says he arrived in 1900. But 17-year-old Pasquale and 22-year-old Gaetano arrived in New York aboard the EMS on 11 February 1893 out of Naples. His hometown is given as Forino, and his occupation, as well as his brother’s, as farmer. They both intended a “protracted sojourn.” Also on the ship, and also from Forino, were Gaetano Barone, Alfonso Mele, and the Orlando Family, Dominic and his wife Angela, and their children Nicolo, Maria Teresa, and Rosa. According to both the 1930 and 1940 Census, Maria Bucco Tuorto arrived 1908. In 1895, Gaetano Tuorto, Pasquale Tuorto, Nicolo Fronzillo, and Nicolo Tuorto were living together in Newark, N.J. Pasquale is between 5 and 20 years of age, the others are between 20 and 60. In 1896, according to the Newark City Directory, Gaetano and Pasquale were stone cutters, living at 25 Drift. In 1905, he seems to have been living with his brother Gaetano and his wife Angiolina in Essex County, N.J. According to the 1910 Newark City Directory, he was a stone cutter, boarding with his brother Gaetano at 23 Garside. But in the 1910 census, he is listed as the sole member of a family living at 23 Garside, in a building with twelve families. He immigrated, according to this census, in 1892, and is still an alien In 1920, Gaetano and Angelina were living at 70 Franklin St. in Belleville, but Pasquale was not living with them. According to the 1925 Belleville Directory, he was living and dealing in dry goods at 64 Franklin. According to the 1940 Belleville Directory, he and his wife had removed to Bloomfield. Also removing to Bloomfield at the same time were Angelina Tuorto, Edna D. Tuorto, Josephine J. Tuorto, and Nicholas Tuorto. When he registered for the draft in World War II, he was sixty-five, living at 133 Harrison St., Bloomfield, N.J. and unemployed. He was 5’ 8” tall, weighed approximately 160 lbs., had blue eyes, gray hair, and a light brown complexion. He is most likely the Pasquale Tuorto buried in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Bloomfield, NJ. If so, he died in 1943. Maria Tuorto, buried in the same plot, was born 1880 and died 1946. Known children of Pasquale and Maria Tuorto: Edna (her real name was Deletta) Josephine Nicholas Angelina Ida Thomas (his real name was Gaetano) (b. Newark 2 Apr 1921; d.
