Joan Swift's (Person:Joan Sisson (1)) will of "12th day of 8th month 1662" [12 Oct 1662] bequeaths to "Mary Darbey", indicating Mary was not married at this time. Source:The New England Historical and Genealogical Register, p. 79:442, which cites this fact, notes it was discovered after the pamphlets of James W. Hawes in Source:Library of Cape Cod history genealogy came out. Consequently, he was unaware of the first marriage and he [understandably, but mistakenly] assumed Mary's marriage to Nicholas happened in 1655 based on the births of children that actually belonged to Nicholas' first wife, Esther Bassett. Given this fact, Mary's marriage to Nicholas was probably in 1663, and it is Nicholas' first marriage that must have occurred about 1655.
