  2. Source:White, Almira Larkin. White Family Quarterly, Vol. 3, p. 113, adds two children, Manasseh and Eunice m. --- Gates, with no other details. Presumably they are intended to be children of the 2nd wife Elizabeth, but the basis for including them is not given, nor has any supporting evidence been found. It does seems strange for Nathaniel to join the church, baptize his other children, and then not baptize these if they are his. Further, he calls Phineas his youngest son in a 1738 deed, and according to Source:Holman, Mary Lovering. Ancestry of Colonel John Harrington Stevens and His Wife, Frances Helen Miller, p. 51, it was daughter Mary that married a Mr. Gates with no mention of either a Eunice or Manasseh in that source. These two appear to be confusion by White, or else copied blindly from one of the older, unacademic Sawyer genealogies.
