Miles Cooper was born in Delaware Co. Ohio and came to Indiana with his parents in 1854.
He was the twelfth child of James and Lucinda (Allen) Cooper, and was born February 11,
1851 and was but about three years of age when they came to Cain Township. While there he
grew to manhood and met Lillie A. Nicholson who was born February 28, 1851. They were
married February 11, 1875 and lived, as far as I know, all their lives in Hillsboro and were
very active in the Nazerene Church there. Lillie passed away October 22, 1923 and Miles on
April 1, 1947 and both were laid to rest in Rose Hill Cemetery at Hillsboro. They were the
parents of eleven children:
1. Harry Preston Cooper was born in December of 1875 in Fountain Co. and on February 26,
1906 he married Josephine Long who was born October 6, 1879 and passed away
October 6, 1964 and Harry passed away April 10, 1947 and both were laid to rest in
Crown Hill Cemetery at Indianapolis. They were the parents of two children:
a. Harry P. Cooper Jr. was born December 5, 1911. I'm not for certain where he was
born but I believe this family lived in Crawfordsville for some time and they may
have been born there. I'm fairly certain it was there or it could have been in
Indianapolis. He married Elizabeth Louise (Betty) Browningand they were the
parents of three children: Harry Jr. passed away February 20, 1991 and was also laid
to rest in Crown Hill Cemetery.
b. Earl Cooper, born May 3, 1918 and married Ann Clifford and they have one child that
I know of:
2. Miranda Cooper was born March 27, 1876 in Fountain Co. and on November 9, 1913 she
married Clarence Speak. I have no information on him but Miranda passed away April
30, 1942 and was laid to rest in Rose Hill Cemetery. They were the parents of three
children. She died in St. Paul, Minn.
a. Miles Samuel Speak, born July 27, 1914 is married and has one son.
b. Mary Elizabeth Speak was born March 27, 1918 and married Stanley Anderson.
c. Paul Gardner Speak was born July 29, 1921, married Eleanor Ernst and they have three
children:
3. Solomon J. Cooper (Sollie) was born in Fountain Co. July 30, 1878 and on September 27,
1911 he married Maude Campbell. She was born October 31, 1885. Sollie passed away
July 25, 1954 and was laid to rest in Rose Hill cemetery. They were the parents of three
daughters:
a. Maxine Bever was born August 16, 1915 and on February 28, 1937 she married Robert
C. (Red) Bever. This is another connection that I spoke of how the Bever family
entwined with the Cooper Family. He was born March 15, 1915 in Danville, Ill. and
his Father was Levi Bever, but no knowledge of his Mother. Maxine passed away
September 23, 1994 and was laid to rest in Rose Hill. Red passed away in 1996 or 7
but I don't have the exact date on hand at this time. They were the parents of three
daughters:
b. Ginevra Cooper was born in Fountain co. May 12, 1922 and on August 20, 1942 she
married Charles Snyder. The only information I have on him is that his Father was
Myron Snyder. There were three children born to this couple:
c. Pearl Cooper was born October 15, 1923 in Fountain Co. and on April 9, 1944 in
Hillsboro she married Harold Hall who was born November 11, 1922 and passed
away November 26, 1949. His Father was William Hall and I don't remember his
Mother's name. I remember him quite well as he operated the motion picture
projector at the Veedersburg Drive-in Theatre and always came to Sunny Inn which
was next to the theatre. It was a truck stop and they would come there to eat before
they went home. This was while I worked there, and was where I first started to work
at the age of 12, working on weekends and holidays until after school and then
worked nights. Pearl and Harold were the parents of four children:
A lot of the information on this family was gleaned from the "History of Fountain Co.
1982, I believe.

November 21, 1958 and was laid to rest in Oak Hill Cemetery, however I believe he
passed away in Florida, but not positive, but he was a deaf mute.

were no children.
6. Katie E. Cooper was born July 7, 1888 in Fountain Co. and on December 4, 1910 she
married Roy Stuart. I believe this family lived in Muncie but I have no death dates on

of five children:

and he and Ruby were both laid to rest in Rose Hill and I'm not sure about Leona. Marion
and Ruby the parents of eight children:
a. Dale Cooper was born July 12, 1920 in Fountain Co. and in December of 1941 he was
married in the Philippines. I have no further information on this because I found the
information while indexing newspapers for the Crawfordsville Library. Dale was in
the Navy, I believe in the Second World War and died while being held in a Japanese
Prison Camp. I don't know if his body was brought back, but his name and
information are on the soldiers and sailors Monument in Rose Hill Cemetery. It is
located in the back of the cemetery and is a very impressive Monument. To the best
of my knowledge there were no children.
