OBITUARY. The death occurred on Friday night of an old and respected resident of Springmount in the person of Mr. Matthew Murnane, at the age of 80 years. He leaves a widow and family of nine daughters and two sons to mourn their (Pa?). They will have the sympathy of friends in their bereavement. The deceased came to Victoria at the age of 17 years. He was extremely unfortunate as regards accidents. When in Liverpool he commenced by breaking a leg. On the ship Great Australia, he fell down the hatchway and broke both legs. On arival in Melbourne he was stay-ing at a friend's hotel, and falling down the stairs re-broke his leg. In later years. he broke an ankle, and several times his ribs, then his thigh and leg, and following lost an eye in an accident. Only three months after that he had the great misfortune to have both arms cut off in a chaff-cutter. The funeral yesterday afternoon at the Creswick Cemetery was largely attended. The Rev. Fr. O'Kane officiated at the house and graveside. Coffin bearers were Messrs. J. and C. Murnane (sons), S. James, E. McMahon, W. Keating and S. McDonald. Pall bearers: Messrs. J. Mullins, W. Cummings, J. Ryan, junr.,T. A. Symonds, P. Martin, R. Butler, J. Mocre, L. Davey, J. and E. Roberts, J Taylor, C. and A. E. Kay, M. Donelly, T. Rose, J. McDonald, T. and J. Keating, E. A. Dooley, J. B. Mader, C. Tait, T. Cushing, M. Hurley, J. Scobie, A. and G. Tippett, John Morrisen, F. H. Carter, L James, W. Fraser, and W. Clohesy. The mortuary arrangements were carried out by Messrs. A. Pasco and Sons. |
