  2. The town records for 1845 and the record submitted to the state for 1845 differ. Allred, p. 33 shows a son d. 15 Feb 1845 in this family. This son is recorded in the town records as Allred reports, but is not seen in the state copy, nor is a gravestone found.
Now, the state copy does show the death record of a daughter two weeks later (2 Mar 1845) to "Lorenzo" Battle but with no age. The town record for this death gives no name, no parent, so nothing to indicate this is a Battle child, but it is one line below the other death. If this was meant to, or if it was assumed to, imply the same parents, then the parent was actually Loring mistranscribed as Lorenzo on the state copy. The age is given as 1 year.
Lorenzo Battle died in 1860, and in his death record, his marital status is single, and no marriage record has been found for him. He would not be expected to have been the parent of any children. Loren/Loring and Lorenzo Battle were either twins or only 1 year apart (no birth record found). There is great possibility that this deceased infant daughter belonged to Loren and Samantha, if it is truly had a surname of Battle, but the discrepancy in the records and lack of a confirming gravestone makes any confident conclusion impossible.
