[These are excerpts from the article] The first religious service we have any record of was held in the Bethel school house of Bear Grove No. 8, in the year 1875. This school house stood on the corner just South of the church. The first minister we have any record of was L B Tabor, father of Mrs Morris Bascom, whom the older people will well remember. The Bascoms lived for many years on the place just south of the church now occupied by Thomas Lydon and family. Some of the early settlers who were instrumental in organizing the first church are these names that will still be familiar to many: L B Tabor, Ann Tabor, Minerva Bascom Tabor [plus several other names].
