The Thiemanns first came from Saxony, Germany, and settled in St. Charles County, Missouri. They settled in New Melle, named for the town of Melle in Germany where the town founders originated. St. Paul, the Lutheran church in New Melle, contains church records for the first Thiemanns to come to America, and many Thiemanns can be found in its cemetery.
