Unknown Relationship to George Collins
The relationship of George Collins to Joshua and Elizabeth is unknown. It is unlikely he was their son, as claimed (without evidence) in many online trees. Note that:
- Joshua and Elizabeth weren't married until 1826, and George was born about 1821
- Joshua and Elizabeth had only one son (William) in the 1830 census
In the 1840 census, there were 5 males under the age of 20 in Joshua's household, presumably their sons William (age 10-14), Elijah and Elisha (aged 5-9), and Allen (under the age of 5), and another male aged 15-19. This last male could have been George, but he wasn't likely their son, since he wasn't in the 1830 census. He might have been a nephew or brother. Or the male aged 15-19 might have been a farmhand who was a different person altogether.
