Notes for WILLIAM TEAS: http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~mabry/collins/np32.html Note for: William Teas, 1735 - 1777 Index William Teas established himself as an innkeeper. When he died about 1777, his widow Mary continued to support herself in this way. Apparently it was a very ordinary inn Some of the distinguished foreign visitors who visited Thomas Jefferson and then came over Rockfish Gap lodged at Mrs. Teas' tavern, as they regretfully recorded in their diaries. One of Lafayette's officers stayed there on Jefferson's recommendation and wrote, "a solitary tin vessel was the only bowl for the family, the servants and ourselves...". Robert Love was executor of the estate of William Tease. Robert Love was almost certainly the older brother (probably half-brother) of Joseph Love (b. 1728). Robert came from Pennsylvania to then Chester County, South Carolina. However, about 1770 after his children were grown and his wife, Violet, had died, he went to Augusta County, Virginia where he remained until about 1779. He probably went back to South Carolina where he died about 1786 in Lancaster County. Robert Love first appears in the records of Augusta County in 1773 on a list of taxpayers who were delinquent for the years 1771 and 1772 [Lyman Chalkey, Chronicles of Augusta County, Virginia, Vol. 2, p. 421]. The same Robert Love was one of the executors of the estate of William Teas, who wrote his will on 10 August 1776, naming his wife, Mary and Robert Love as his executors [Chalkey, Vol. 3, p. 150]. William Tease's will was proved in Augusta County on 17 March 1778 and the sale of his estate sale was held on 3 April 1779 by the same Mary Tease, widow, and Robert Love [Chalkey, Vol. 3, p, 187]. It should be noted that William and Mary Tease were the parents of Joseph Teas (as it was usually spelled in the next generation), who married Jane ?Henderson about 1729. Joseph and Jane Teas were the parents of Mary Teas (ca 1734 - 1815) who married Joseph2 Love (Robert1). The close relationship of these families is shown by the fact that both the Loves and the Teas(e) families came to the Valley of Virginia from Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. The question then becomes, what was the relationship between William Tease and his second executor, Robert Love. Clearly he was very close to Joseph and Samuel Love. The name of Robert Love appears, along with those of Joseph and Samuel, on a list of contributors to the Tinkling Spring Presbyterian Church which dates from 1765 - 1770 [Howard McKnight Wilson, The Tinkling Spring: Headwater of Freedom, 1954, p. 440]. This record shows that Robert Love was present in Augusta County at least one or two years earlier than the 1771 date given by Franklin D. Love.
