    They were married at Mandeure. Marie was the daughter of Jean Baptiste Poinsot and
    Jeanne Claude Vouron. He is also called Claude Joseph. The following account appeared in the
    Louisville Herald of 2/16/1888:

    "Among the good people who helped transform what was a wilderness into a thrifty
    farming community comprising Nimishillen township was Claude Joseph Menegay, his faithful
    wife and sturdy children, who reached this locality after a journey of over three months--a
    journey that in this day would take one to the other side of the world and return.
