Joseph Hedger

Joseph Hedger, son of Susannah Thorne and Eliakim Hedger, was born on August 31, 1718 in Flushing, Long Island, Colonial New Amsterdam. He grew up in New York and after his mother's death, moved with his father's family to Woodbridge. Joseph immigrated between 1728 and 1730 to Woodbridge, Colonial New Jersey. Joseph later immigrated before 3 December 1776 to St Marks Parish, Culpepper County, Colonial Virginia. Joseph died in Virginia.

Joseph Hedger and Sarah Stevenson Marriage

Joseph was nearly 24 when he married Sarah Stevenson at the Burlington Monthly Meeting of Friends[3]. Their first declaration of marriage was given on 4 Jun 1742 [3]. Their second declaration of intention to marry was given on 7 Jun 1742[3].

JOSEPH HEDGER and SARAH STEPHENSON[1][3] were married 10 JUN 1741/1742 at Burlington Meeting House in Woodbridge, Colonial New Jersey. SARAH STEPHENSON[3], daughter of ELNATHAN STEPHENSON and SARAH CORNELL, was born on 20 November 1721 in Burlington, Colonial New Jersey, America[1]. She died about 1772 at the age of 51 in Culpepper County, Virginia Colony[3].

JOSEPH HEDGER and SARAH STEPHENSON had the following children:

1) Stephen “Steven” Hedger

Stephenson "Stephen" HEDGER, born about 1743 in Somerset County, New Jersey Colony. Stephen died after 1843.

2) Thomas Stern Hedger

Thomas Stern (aka Stephen Thomas) Hedger was born March 25, 1747 in Somerset County, New Jersey Colony. Thomas was American Revolutionary soldier, serving in Captain James Thomas' Company and Captain Ben Lillard's Company, under Col. Slaughter's Virginia Regiment. Thomas died December 5, 1845, Rosedale, Parke County, Indiana. Thomas is buried in Adams Cemetery in Rosedale, Parke County, Indiana. .
