- ↑ This date assumes that this couple were the parents of the Joseph Farnsworth who was sworn freeman of Massachusetts Bay 2 May 1649. Except for the mention of an eldest son Joseph in the will of the first Joseph Farnsworth, there is essentially no mention of the younger man and no sure connection between the senior Joseph's heir and the 1649 freeman. It is possible, with the cluster of daughters born to this couple in the late 1630s and early 1640s, that the younger Joseph could have been the son of the elder Joseph and an earlier, totally unknown previous wife. Estimates of dates of births of this couple are based on the assumption that the younger Joseph was their child, born before 1628 in order to have attained his majority by 1649.
