  3. As explained on Jonathan's page, it is difficult sorting out the many Jonathan Smith's. Allred gives this marriage to both father and son, but it appears to be father. Allred reports that the father's first wife died early in 1804 (unfortunately the Find A Grave memorial has no image and probably is just a copy of Allred and no death record has been located), which combined with the son apparently already residing in Vermont, suggests it was the father.
