In 1854, not long after the death of his first wife, Lucinda (Jolly) Ligon, Jonathan married her sister, Fenicy Jolly in Wilson County, Tennesse. By 1855, Jonathan and Fenicy had moved north to Franklin County, Illinois, where their daughter Rebecca was born in 1855. Jonathan died in 1859, the same year as the birth of his son Emrey.
