1525 - Will Abstract: Wills his body to be buried within the priory of Staverdell in the chapel of the chauntry of Jesus there. Wills that all his debts and legacies be paid to the issues and profits of the manors of Clyppesham, Launden, Bramfeld, and Little Houghton. Wills 53s. 4d. to the prior and convent of Staverdale. Wills 20s. to the prior and convent of the Charterhouse of Wytham. Bequeaths all his right, title and interest in logging and in adjoining ground withiin the priory of Staverdale to Sir John Fitz-James, knight, Chief Baron of the Exchequer, and to his assignees, provided that J. F. shall not allow his son, Sir John Zouche, to occupy his abode. Makes Master James Fitzjames, clerk, doctor of divinity, Master James Gilbert, clerk, residenciaries in the cathedral church of Wells, and Leonard Chaffyn, his executors, giving to each of them £10. Overseer Sir John Fitz-James, knight, to whom he gives 20 marks. In a codicil he wills that immediately after his death his daughter Cecilye Zouche have £10 of land, parcel of the manor of Branfelde to her and her heirs. Wills the manor of Branfelde to his son William Zouche and his male heirs after his death, except for the £10's worth allotted to Cecilye. Wills an annuity of 53s. 4d. to his servant Richard Dyer, to be paid yearly at the Feasts of Pentecost and All Saints out of the part of the said manor of Branfelde bequeathed to William. He wills the same to his servant Edward Burley. He wills to John Fitz-james the elder and his son John an annuity of 10 marks, out of the manor of Little Houghton, to be paid at the same feasts. He wills to his servant Frauncis Aynesworth an annuity of 100s. He wills to the servant of his chamber Cuthbert Mychell 5 marks yearly. He wills to other servants the following: Hugh Norman, 40s., John Porter, 40s., Arthur Makeworthe, 4 marks, James Bryce, 4 marks, John Artour the younger, 40s., John Arthur thelder, 4 marks, all out of the said manor of Little Houghton, to be paid at the feast previously named. Further wills to his servants William Gylman an annuity of 40s., to John Bledring and John Lydeate an annuity of 26s. 8d., these to be paid out of the manor of Branfelde. And with the residue of the profits of the said manors of Little Houghton and Branfelde, he wills his executors to pay the rest of his servants one whole year's wages.
