  1. ↑ Since Martha is listed with her father in the passenger list of the Defence in 1635, the marriage must have occurred in New England (despite some statements to the contrary, which are called "A lie I am afraid" by a frustrated researcher who found almost nothing believable in the early versions of the Whittingham genealogies (Source:NEHGR, p. 39:172). Since John Whittingham did not appear in Ipswich until 1637/38, the marriage would have been after 1637.
