The proposed marriage between John Townsend and Elizabeth Pococke caused some concern among the Quakers, and David Greene speculates that it was the bride's age that may have been the reason.[1]

John and Elizabeth probably immigrated to Pennsylvania with his nephew Joseph and niece Joan in 1712, and they stayed temporarily with his brother Richard in Chester County.[1]
