There is some discrepancy among sources about which children belong to this family. The Thwing Genealogy is the seminal work on the Thwing family, and the oldest, having been published in 1883. It gives dates with a preciseness that hints at familiarity (such as a family Bible). As a result it is frequently taken at face value. For example, Historical Brighton seems to rely on it except where its own evidence says different. However, the Thwing Genealogy lists several children in this family that are not found in the VR Newton even though all children are said to have been born in Newton. It is not known how data for these missing children was arrived at. A compromise seems to be History of Newton which appears to have connected some children not shown in the Newton records, but does not simply add all those listed in the Thwing Genealogy, suggesting it only listed those it found actual evidence for. However, that it supports most of the Thwing Genealogy, except for those that died young, gives us more confidence that the Thwing Genealogy may have a reasonable basis in fact. The following table compares the various sources.
