Note: Because both John and his father married women named Rachel, many older sources misidentify the wife of the older John Sibley as Rachel Pickworth. Sometimes she is called the daughter of Amariah Pickworth. For example, Savage [edited for readability] says "Amariah Pickworth, Salem, had, says a very good author, a daughter Rachel, who married the second John Sibley, but I feel no small degree of hesitation because the first John Sibley married Rachel Pickworth, as is said." Modern research, based on the wills of John Pickworth and Lawrence Leach, as mentioned in the Great Migration Begins articles on those two men, clearly show that the elder John Sibley married Rachel Leach, who after his death in 1661 married Thomas Goldwaite. The younger John Sibley (the one of this page) married Rachel Pickworth, the daughter of John, not of Amariah.
