PUTNAM, John [Jr.] and Mrs. Anne Cox of Brimfield, int. June 3, 1797.

  2. See documents in John's probate, abstracted on his page. They give the date of marriage as 14 Jun 1798 (not 1797 as suggested by the intention) and place the divorce in Sep 1817. The Putnam Genealogy, p. 385, says the divorce was "on account of incompatibility of temper", but documents in probate say it was due to adultery by John.
  3. The Putnam Genealogy, p. 385, attributes to this wife four children but only three are found in the records. As this source shows Harry with an unspecified birth date, and Mary with 27 Nov 1800, while the published VRs show only Harry, b. 27 Mar 1800, it appears the Putnam Genealogy misread Harry as Mary, creating a fictitious daughter, and then added Harry sans birthdate based on other evidence. The original isn't online, only a very neat town copy which agrees with the published VRs.
