  4. Source:Bent, Allen Herbert. Walter Allen of Newbury, Mass., 1640, and Some of His Descendants, in his coverage of the Allen family, doesn't try to identify which John Moore it is that Deborah Allen married. The standard work on the Moore's of Sudbury, an multi-part article by Ethel Stanwood Bolton in Source:NEHGR, on p. 57:306 says that John Moore, s/o Joseph, b. 1683 m. (1) Abigail ---, and m. (2) 1714 Deborah Allen. It lists 7 children by the first wife, born 1703-1713, and four more by the second wife 1716-1724, no name overlaps. Note however, that the eldest child for the first marriage was b. 1703 when John was barely 20, and was named Jacob. This suggests a better match for Abigail was John Moore, s/o Jacob, b. 1673.

This article apparently presumed that John, s/o Jacob, died young, since it shows no details and says the father Jacob gave away his lands to his various sons in 1716, John not appearing in the list of grantees of the various deeds. But in an addendum, p. 58:177, it says that John Moore, s/o Jacob, married Abigail Wright and moved to Rutland. Presumably this is the same Abigail mentioned above.

But then, if it was the older John that married Abigail, was it also the older John that married Deborah as his second wife, or was the older John still married to Abigail in Rutland, making it the younger John that married Deborah? There is no death record for Abigail in Sudbury prior to the marriage, and if Abigail died in Rutland, it would seem unlikely that her husband would find his second wife in Weston. And Bolton's article offers no help figuring out who "Moor, Abigail, w. Dea. John" is who died in Sudbury 17 Dec 1729, but the above Abigail Wright who is supposed to be in Rutland seems likely (and is asserted so by a couple of secondary sources without evidence). So, on the surface, it seems probable that Deborah married the younger John Moore, s/o Joseph, as his first wife.
