Barker Admx of the Estate of John Mauldin Deceased requiring him to be and appear before the Judge of the County Court at an orphans Court to be held at the Court house in the Town of Ashville on the first monday in November next then and there to make final Settlement of Said Estate. Recd in office from Thos. M. Barker $147.59. (my note - jkmc - this proves there were nine living children: 23.65 X 9 - $212.85 + Rebecca's 53.21 = $266.06, excluding the fractions)

Recorded on left margin of document: Recd of James Rogan Judge of the County Court One Hundred and nine 57/100 Dollars the distribution share of the Estate of Jno Malden Decd belonging to James Malden, Jackson Malden & Nancy Malden heirs of Said estate it being the full amt due them (unreadable word) Interest to 7th Nov 1843. It is located in the Orphans Court Records. It says: November 14, 1836 received of Thomas M. Barker administrator of the estate of John Malden decd. Thirty three dollars eighty eight cents such for distributive shares of this estate.

    The above document is the only time we see Blake Mauldin's name mentioned directly in these court proceeding, but the fact that he signed is very good circumstantial evidence that he was related, most likely as a son.

    John Mauldin was about 43 years of age when he died.
