- ↑ There is no marriage record, apparently, to give the wife's name. "Dunten/Dunton 1644-1997" by Joseph F. Dunten, identifies the wife as Elizabeth Dunton. Despite very bad editing (it says m. in Mississippi - probably misinterpretation of abbreviated state "Ms." which was often Massachusetts before the abbreviations were standardized - and that the wife died in Harwich, Barnstable County - should be Hardwick, Worcester County, where her death record is found) that suggests this data may be good data, but copied sloppily. Nothing has been found to suggest a better alternative, and, it fits the known facts. For a more professional looking source see Source:Mason, Edna Warren. Descendants of Capt. Hugh Mason in America, p. 76, or Source:Mason, Mary Eliza. Genealogy and History, the Family of Hugh Mason, William Mason and Allied Familes, p. 31. The combination of the two sets leads us to the evidence of her identification. The first source correctly gives Elizabeth's birth in Sudbury, the second two identify her father as Thomas of Western, and we find a will of "Thomas Dunton of Western", dated 13 Dec 1757, which mentions [among others] daughter Elizabeth Mason.
