Unknown if Robert Mathis changed his surname after the marriage or the clerk made a grievous error. All other records show his name as John R. Maffett or Maffet. This couple is enumerated in the 1910 census living on Rail Road Street in Trion, Georgia next to the parents of Bell Coker. The census indicates that they have been married for 5 years and that it is the first marriage for both.
