Jim: Your name was given to me by Floyd OWSLEY of Elizabethton, TN as he said you were descended from JAMES LAIRD and Letetia KERR. Take a look at my wife's ahnentafel by clicking on Betty's Roots on our Page. I think that James and Letetia were parents of my wife's John LAIRD of Tazewell Co., VA, who children were named, James, Jane, Solomon, Letetia, Samuel, Margaret, Mary, John and Corneliius. There seems to be some conflict in the book "Annals of Taxewell Co., VA" in that it shows James and Lucy (PICKENS) LAIRD as parents of my wife's John. Floyd shows James and Letetia KERR, who I believe may have been dau of John KERR and Lucy PICKENS. In the "Greenup, Whiteen, Cecil" book, it shows John and Lucy (PICKENS) LAIRD. Puzzled!!! Can you offer any concrete data to clear up this for us as we would sure liek to have my wife's Parents down correctly as well as any ancestors further back. Be looking for your reply. Thanks for anything you can offer. Bill Bill & Betty Gaulding E-mail: rickyrg@networksplus.net Home Page: http://www.networksplus.net/rickyrg Info from Bill and Betty's web page: 50. Notes for SAMUEL LAIRD: From the Annals of Tazewell County, Virginia: (pg. 477) Samuel Laird, who married Christina Harmon, was the son of John Laird; and John Laird was the son of Ensign James Laird who was mortally wounded at the battle of Kings Mountain. Samuel Laird took an active part in politics; served as postmaster of Jeffersonville (now the town of Tazewell), and held positions in the government service at Washington, D.C., covering a period of several years.
