Family diary: John and Julia met at a spelling bee. They were Married in her home (her parents' log cabin). Squire Andrews performed the marriage. The cabin was a two room house with a separate kitchen-loom house. The main room with fireplace has two big beds and trundle beds in it and to make room for the weeding guests, the beds were taken out and tables set up for the dinner. The next day , Julia and John rode hourseback up to the log house on Haxton Hill were the newslyweds were welcomed by friends and neighbors. They would live there until the summer of 1855.
