John Preston, son of Archibald Preston, and his wife, Eizabeth Patton, daughter of Henry and Sarah Lynn Patton, and their five children, emigrated from Ireland in 1736 and settled in Augusta County, Virginia. Their son, William Preston was born in 1729, at Newton, Limonvoody, Ireland. He married Susanna Smith, daughter of Francis and Elizabeth Waddy Smith. They had twelve children, 1762-1784, born in Augusta County; Greenfield, Botetourt County, Virginia; Greenfield, Botetourt County; and Smithfield, Montgomery County, Virginia. Their daughter, Letitia Preston (b. 1779), married Dr. John Floyd, son of John and Jane Buchanan Floyd of Botetourt County, Virginia, in 1804 in Franklin County, Kentucky. They had twelve children, 1805-1827, born at Smithfield, Roanoke, Christianburg, Smithfield, Balscksburg, and Thorn Smprings, Virginia.
