This family should not be confused with the Norton family of John and Mary Fisher who had sons John and Joseph in 1723 and 1725, respectively. The latter Mary died in childbirth in 1725 (Norton VRs, pp. 56, 370). It remains unclear whether the two John Fishers are in fact the same individual. The Norton VRs list a John who died in 1768 in his 60's ('John, Oct. 20, 1768, in 6[torn]th year.') - if he died in his late 60's this individual could easily have been the husband of both families. The fact that none of the sons in the present family were named John supports this interpretation. However, it was unusual for a widowed father to wait so long before remarrying. Further clarification will require (at least) John's will. This is probably a red herring, but, just to add confusion, the Norton VRs list a widow Mary Fisher who married in 1753 ('Mary, wid. [int. omits wid.], and Cornelius Tucker, Oct 22, 1753.'). However, there is no evidence that this is the Mary who was married to John. References
