John and Edith had three children, two sons and one daughter.

John's obituary reads, "JOHN J. FINAN, 76, died at 11 p.m. March 1 in Georgetown, Texas. Born in Payne, Ohio, he lived in Fort Wayne for 50 years before moving to Georgetown, Texas, in 1985. He retired from Wayne Pump Machine Shop in 1964. Surviving are his wife, Edith; two sons, John F. and Patrick M., both of Georgetown, Texas; a daughter, Sandra Suzzanne "Sue" Vanover of Georgetown; a brother, Thomas of Fort Wayne; five sisters, Margaret Higgins of Dallas, Helen Murphy of Houston, and Mary M. Kintz, Eleanor Erb and Dorothy Walker, all of Fort Wayne; five granddaughters and a step-granddaughter. No services or calling. Memorials to the Masses."
