John Cole m. Susanna Gray bef. 1 Apr 1688 when the Susanna Cole "who was Grey" was called before church. On 26 Mar 1689 deed to "William Shirtliff of the Town of Plimouth" acknowledged by "John Cole and his wife Susanna" [which makes above source's error surprising.] The identification of John's mother as Abigail Davenport seems based on outdated sources, as the article shows that his father m. (1) Mary Tilson who was living 1678 (and hence mother of John b. 1660), m. (2) Esther --- who was living at least until 1699, and so did not m. (3) Abigail --- until 1700 or so. The article specifically debunks traditional sources giving marriage date to Abigail Davenport in 1654, 1660, or 1679.

[Note: by all appearances this source has conflated the families of John, listed as John Sr. in the Plympton records, and his son, listed as John Jr. It should be disregarded.]

  4. The main source for the children in this family is the settlement of the mother's estate, the father having given her all his property. It was supplemented by many assumptions, one being that it reflects birth order, and another that likely looking marriages in Plympton belong to these children. More research, particularly a survey of deeds, may yield more information.]
