  2. The marriage record calls John's wife Sarah Cassell, but John's will gives a legacy to his wife's daughter Mary Whitney and her children, suggesting she was married before. This Mary Whitney hasn't been identified. Bond in his first volume, p. 162 says John m. Mary Cassel, and had a second wife Sarah. Savage says 1:105 that John m. Sarah Cady, "perhaps a sister of Nicholas", but this may be reading too much into a deed, Vol. 7, p. 439 where in 1680John Clary Jr. sells land that "was sometime [in occupation?] Nicholas Cady of Groton, also signed by John and Sarah Clary. However, vol. 14, p. 343, in 1667 John and Sarah Clary give lands in Groton to Nicholas Cady in exchange for lands in Watertown, and no relationship is indicated.
