James, John, Anthony and Samuel* James died in Ireland leaving one son Thomas who settled in Rockbridge Co. Va*, northeast of Roanoke, Va. After his death his family moved to Ohio. John (the Immigrant) came to America in 1764 or 1735 and remained five years on the Brandywine River, Chester (county Penn.(just east of Philadelphia). He was in Augusta Co. Virginia (near Staunton, Virginia) in 1739. Five of his sons lived near Carlisle, Ohio. Lt.Samuel Black bought 600 acres from Wm. Ingles and David Robinson in 1772and gave 300 acres to John and 600 to William. This land was in the1,OOO acres of the Colonel James Patton Patent granted by Gov. Gooch in1753. Col. Patton was killed by an Indian while collecting money from the farms. His son-in-law Wm .
