John and Anna were married by the Presbyterian minister at the Peaked Mountain Presbyterian church 10 April 1764 as shown in the churchs record transcribed on p. 45 of Hoefling's "Chasing the Frontier: Scotch-Irish in Early America". The names in the church record are given as "John Munger" and "Agnes Pirke". A study of the names "Agnes" and "Ann" or "Anna" shows that although these names are from different languages, they were once considered equivalent, therefore I don't consider the discrepancy in the first name as significant given the fact that there would be no other John Monger married there at that time and that his wife was indisputably a Pirkey. That they were married in the Presbyterian Church is probably due to the on-going turmoil created by the French and Indian War, which is referred to in the church records. "Burckin", "Burkin", of course represents the feminine form of the German name that was transcribed as "Pirkey" (and variants) in English. References
