From Darcy 5/18/2001: In the 1859 Buffalo City Directory I see a John Schad, lab. h. Adams n. Sycamore. Now, I know this is a long shot, but the entry for one of the 2 Lenhard Schmidt's is the same! Could he be Johannes Schwed living near his wife, Christina's sister Elisabeth?

Jan 2003: Searched 1850 census, all states, for any SCHWEDs. Nothing.
