1850 census: Annotated, compiled by John P. Alderman (1979) Joel's father was an elder Joel Ashworth (1757-1847) who served in the Revolution from Charlotte Co., Va. and moved here from Franklin Co. in the 1820s. Elizabeth (they married in 1836) was the daughter of Henry and Letitia (Richardson) Edwards. She was raised near HIllsville on Little Reed. The two older boys died in the war.
