JESSE HALL ... married Sarah Bryan, September 30, 1813. ... He lived about one and a half miles from Newburgh, at a place called Scotch Hill. His farm was underlaid with the celebrated Newburgh vein of semi-bituminous coal, and was bought and worked out several years ago. He died December 21, 1858, and his wife in 1861. They are both buried near the farm, at Bethel Church.
Children were:
1. Matthew R., b. November 18, l815, who lives at Albia, Iowa. I wrote to him, but received no reply. He could have given me much information.
2. Elizabeth, b. June 29, 1817.
3. Nancy B., b. April 1, 1819.
4. Nathan, b. Sept. 14, 1821.
5. Frances, b. May 16 1823.
6. George B., b. Nov. 28, 1824.
7. Ashford, b. Dec. 22,1826, and married Mary Blume, May 15, 1855. They had a family, one of whom, Flora, was born at Oakland, Md. April 30, 1860, and died at Stryker, Ohio, December 28, 1884. She was a graduate of the Wheeling Female College, and a teacher afterwards in that institution, and at other places. Another daughter, Luella, is now a teacher.
8. William A., b. Jan.10, 1829.
There is much I have not gotten. One of the above daughters married Reuben Warthen, and another, _____Wilkins, and they each had families. I think Matthew R. is married. Others of this family are in the West. This part could have been made very interesting if answers had been made to my inquiries. ...
