To be recognized in legal documents, etc, all marriages from 1754 until 1837 had to take place in a parish church of the "established" Church of England. Following this regulation, all marriages for people in Almondbury Parish were conducted at Almondbury, but baptisms and burials often took place in smaller "chapelries" within the parish. Chapelries were often described as "chapels of ease" which meant that they were erected so that parishioners would not have to travel so far for these sacraments and for Sunday services.
