    James Bush of Bittin P(ar)ish married Elizabeth Evans of this parish, by a certificate from the Minister of Bittin.

    The margin records the payment of 5 units of some money (5p perhaps). Other weddings were priced similarly if by Banns, double for a licensed marriage. The archivist was surprised to see this whole entry - the business of a certificate is most unusual - but the conclusion was that the certificate was probably to say that the Banns had been read in Bitton.
