Descendants of John Ball, Watertown, Massachusetts, 1630-1635, p. 14, mistakes the disagreement of town and church over the wife's name as a sign that James had two wives, the second being identified as Sarah Harrington. Yet the book also takes the birth of Elizabeth in Dec 1726 to Hannah (town records) and the baptism 4 months later in Apr 1727 to Sarah (church records) as two different children (without noticing Patience's records have the same discrepancy)! So it appears the book's presentation is erroneous, and the discrepancy in mother's name is the result of the town records mistakenly recording Hannah. No evidence of a Sarah Harrington b. 1703-4, or the death of a first wife, or a remarriage, or of the wife's maiden name has been discovered. It could be the apparent only wife was Sarah Harrington, but given the above, the credibility of this source is not sufficient to rely on it without finding additional evidence.
