ALDRICH, Jacob and Mehitebel Gefford, int. Oct. 16, 1769.
In the Friends Records from East Hoosuck (Adams), Mass., NEHGR, p. 71:360, Jacob's wife Mehitabel is said to have been born at Rochester 27 Feb 1748. The Rochester VRs only show the birth of Mehitable on 25 Feb 1745-6, to Hananiah Gifford and Joanna Mendel/Mendall. In an article on the Descendants of William Gifford, NEHGR, p. 130:137, the author admits some dissatisfaction due to working from a non-original abstract of the will of Hananiah, which names daughter "Mehitable, wife of John Aldrich of Douglas". But in his summary, he shows Mehitable marrying Jacob Aldrich "of Douglas" in 1769, giving the source cited here. Douglas VRs don't seem to mention either a John or Jacob Aldrich. It seems possible that Mehitable is the daughter of Hananiah, but plenty of doubt remains until better evidence can be found.
