"Two possible marriages [for the second marriage of Mary (Merwin) Tinker] were found in the appropriate period: Mary Tinker to Matthew Sension {St. John] in 1627, and Mary Tinker to Humphrey Collins in 1632. Either Mary could be John Tinker's mother. The question now was, which one?

The impasse was resolved upon the discovery of the will of Humphrey Collins, yeoman, of the adjacent parish of Clewer, Berkshire, dated and proved in 1634. In it, Collins named his present wife Mary, and made reference to an obligation dated 10 February 1631/2 whereby he stood bound to pay £40 to "Sara Tynker, one of the daughters of my said wife" at the age of 21 years."[1] (p. 402-403)
